What is Functional Medicine?

Functional Medicine shifts the traditional disease-centered focus of conventional medical practice to a more patient-centered approach, thereby addressing the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms.

It is science-based, with a focus on prevention through nutrition, diet, and exercise; and combinations of therapeutic diets, supplements, detoxification programs, or stress-management techniques.

By changing how the system functions and bringing balance to the whole body, Functional Medicine can have a major impact on the individual’s health.

The science

Functional Medicine is a systems biology approach that focuses on understanding the genetic, environmental and psychosocial factors, that in combination, create dependencies, which drive an individual’s health and wellbeing. By knowing how each person’s genes and environment interact to create the unique biochemical phenotype, it is possible to design targeted and effective interventions.

The process

I seek to discover the root causes behind a health condition or a set of symptoms, rather than tackling each symptom individually. Together, we will identify the genetic, environmental and psychosocial triggers and catalysts that are unique to you. We will do this, through one-to-one consultations and advanced tests, when necessary. This process is a partnership, and I will support you every step of the way.

The goals

We will work together to define a personalized nutritional and lifestyle plan that best addresses your health issues, needs and goals; is practicalinspiring and achievable; and can help you attain long-lasting results and become your most healthy self.
